Hackers gain access to Valve’s game service

NewellHackers have used login details from the forum hack to access a database that held ID and credit card data. Valve’s game service has uncovered an intrusion into a user database while investigating a security breach of its discussion forums. Once valve came to know about the attack, stream forums were taken offline on November 6, the attackers have gained access to a stream database that held usernames, salted passwords, email address, billing address and also credit card information.

At first the firm said discussion groups were offline because of maintenance. But later on November 10, they posted a message in the forum that the sites were shut down because of the defacement. But Valve confirmed that they had no evidence that stream accounts and credit cards being misused. Steam is a gaming service that lets people download, buy, play and chat about a huge variety of games, very few are made by Valve itself.

Mr. Newell told that all forum users will be required to change their passwords when the discussion site comes online, they really working hard to rectify the issue as soon as possible. He has also advised users to change passwords on other accounts if they are the same as the one used for the stream forums. He also said “I am truly sorry this happened, and i apologize for the inconvenience”.
